Some Banter

The hardest part of any writing is to figure out what to write. Lot of advice is available on how to write. Advice in the form of books, blogs, bulletin boards and creative writing classes. However, there is no such advice available on what to write about.

Writing a thesis/composition, white paper, web page content is easy. Easy because one knows what to write. Having known what to write, it is all about study, pre-writing, writing, review and evaluation it takes. Out side the confines of the writings I mentioned, what worries me is the topic I need to write on.

My take on the role of muse in creative writing is bipolar. (As with the case in many other aspects). I once opined in my previous blog about being gritty about writing and not waiting for the muse. However, at times I find flogging myself to write, but can't go beyond a couple of sentences for want of inspiration or muse.

One way I keep up my momentum is to have a commitment that I blog regularly. Of course, how regular is a debate. I write to myself, more like a diary. So the pressure to imbue the output with stylistics is almost zero. It is not about the quantity, it is about ratification to myself that I can write. As they say nothing succeeds like success.

Most time my inspiration comes during the shower, after the conjugal bliss, masturbation, during long walks. In short, I find my muse when I'm alone. I'm not that type who wants to watch a specimen during a gathering and come write a note about him.
